Biometrics – It’s your choice

Once again, Marlem and her Recreation Board refuse to listen to owner concerns. Some have willingly signed up for biometrics, and we support their choice to use the new biometrics system to access secured doors. However, many have serious privacy concerns with biometrics, and many are upset and stressed out over the poor performance of the fingerprint recognition devices. Nevertheless, the Recreation Board announced last Friday via Condo Control that the Medco key locks are being removed. Despite assurances through unofficial channels that some level of non-biometric card access, which the installed system supports, will be provided, the official Condo Control message from the Recreation Board distributed Friday fails to mention that option. Instead, the announcement implies that everyone will need to sign up for facial and fingerprint recognition. You don’t, so don’t let that announcement influence your individual decision to keep your private biometric information private. QuadProTeam’s position remains that all unit owners must have a choice, and we will continue to support your basic right as a homeowner to secure, non-biometric access throughout our property, if that’s your choice. We will just as strongly support your right to use the convenience of biometric access (when it works, anyway) if that is your choice.

And we will strive for timely, meaningful, and more honest communication.
